Bio
Pia Mater formed in the fall of 2004 at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Since then they have been crafting great songs along with developing their improvisational prowess. The initial lineup of the band released it's first album, The Living Legends, on December 6th, 2008. The current version of Pia Mater is putting it's stamp on the Northeast music scene with it's strong songwriting, inventive setlists, and strong improv. The current quintet is relying on their strong funk and rock roots to drive their music, but finding ways to expand on that sound by incorporating progressive, electronic, and more intense vocal arrangements in it's songwriting and improv.

We've been hard at work and we're geared up for another busy summer featuring a slew of Festivals, Aftershows, and a new Album!
I know we've been talking about this album for awhile, but we're in the final stages of getting things together. Howdy folks,
After a great weekend with NY Funk Exchange at Lovin' Cup and Telepath at The Red Square in Albany, we'll be hitting the road again and heading to Buffalo. We'll be playing at Third Room on Chippewa, right in the heart of downtown Buffalo. We'll be doing two full sets and will have some DJ's spinning tunes in between and afterwards. If you plan on going or have any friends in Buffalo, please RSVP to the Facebook event so we have an idea of how many people are coming. Third Room is a small, intimate room, and we don't want any one to get shut out!
We recorded last Friday's show at Lovin' Cup and that will be posted on the LMA tomorrow. We'll also be recording tomorrow's show and look for that on the LMA sometime next week.
The mixing of our next studio album is almost done and we should have a timeline for release set in the next few weeks. Once we nail down a date, we'll let everyone know.
Just a reminder, we have a big show coming up in Syracuse with EOTO at The Westcott Theatre. You can pick up tickets here.
Last but not least, our next hometown show will be May 14th at The Club at Waterstreet. We're very excited about this show, as we'll be sharing the stage with ekoostik hookah from Ohio, along with our good friends Friday in America. We'll have tickets available Friday and they'll be available on the website very soon as well.
Thanks for the support the past couple of weeks, it's be great. We hope to see some of you in Buffalo this weekend!

We had a phenomenal time in Boston and Brattleboro last weekend and we'd like to thanks The Van Burens, their friends and families, and Mike Dunn for the hospitality they all showed us last weekend. We managed to document both shows on tape, and you can listen to the audio right here.
After sleeping for a few hours on Sunday, we were back at it on Monday and have finished tracking our new album! All we have left is some mixing and mastering (and maybe some guest spots) and we'll be done. We've also decided on the title and tracklisting, but we're keeping that a secret. We should have it ready by summer time, so be on the look out for it at our festivals this summer.
Last but not least, we have a bunch of shows coming up in April. We'll be sharing the stage with some friends, both old and new, which we're very excited about. We'll start off April here in Rochester at Lovin' Cup on the 9th with The New York Funk Exchange, a great 9 piece from Brooklyn. On the 10th we'll be heading to Albany for our first time to play with Telepath at Red Square. On the 16th we'll be back in Buffalo once again for a full evening of Pia Mater at The Third Room. We'll then be taking a week off to enjoy some time here in Rochester, but be hitting the stage on April 30th in Syracuse with EOTO at The Westcott Theater. We're really excited about this show and you can pick up presale tickets (with no surcharge) here. Last but not least, (even though it's in May) we'll be starting off our festival season at Flower Harvest Fest 2 in Fort Ann, NY.
There's some other shows for April in the works as well, and as soon as we get them nailed down we'll let you know. We have some big plans for the rest of spring and summer, so stay tuned.
