Bio
Pia Mater formed in the fall of 2004 at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Since then they have been crafting great songs along with developing their improvisational prowess. The initial lineup of the band released it's first album, The Living Legends, on December 6th, 2008. The current version of Pia Mater is putting it's stamp on the Northeast music scene with it's strong songwriting, inventive setlists, and strong improv. The current quintet is relying on their strong funk and rock roots to drive their music, but finding ways to expand on that sound by incorporating progressive, electronic, and more intense vocal arrangements in it's songwriting and improv.

So with the new website, we've decided to add a blog so you can keep up to date with all of the exciting things that we have going on. We'll be included a lot of media in here, as well as our own gems of wisdom. For the first one though, we'll stick with new music. Here's a taste of a new one we're working on. Come to the show Tuesday and you might get to hear it ;)

Thu Feb 4 -
Hi Folks,
Happy February! Phil has seen his shadow, so we've got some more winter ahead of us, but we'll be keeping busy.
Thanks to everyone who came to the show Friday in Buffalo. It was a great night and we met a lot of new fans and we can't wait to be back in Buffalo, which will be happening in early March. We'll be playing an Umphrey's Mcgee After Show on March 4th, and check out the details below.
Along with that, we've got our next Rochester show booked as well. We'll be joined by Shoeless Revolution on February 23rd at Dubland Underground, and we're very excited to be welcoming this great band from Minneapolis to Rochester. We know it's a Tuesday night, but the show will be starting early (8pm) so there's no excuse for not coming out!
On top of all of that, we'll be doing some recording over the next month and hope to have a brand new EP ready this spring. We've been writing like crazy and we want to get some new material out to you guys as soon as we can.
We have a very busy March planned, so keep you heads up for info on all of that as dates get closer.
Last but not least, we're excited to announce that we'll be opening for EOTO (members of String Cheese Incident) April 30th in Syracuse. We'll have tickets for this show very soon, so let us know if you or your friends need them, because if you get them from us, there's no service charges!
We've got some other big plans in the works, and as soon as we know about it we'll make sure to let you know!
